I have been taking cars to American Tire since I moved to Rio Rancho 15 years ago. Many a time for a second opinion after going to the dealership. They have always been honest and done good work. I attribute this to Rocky. This last time that I took my car in, he answered the phone when I called to make an appointment. I knew when I spoke to him that I would get good service there. Each time I’ve taken a car there and have had to get major work done, he has explained everything (to a non car person) in a way I could understand. That has helped me make informed decisions. Once, I made a decision to not have anymore work done on a car that was at the end of its life. This time, I am having work done on a car that has much more to give. It put my mind at ease after talking to Rocky because I knew that I would get the work done that the car needed and I would understand exactly what that entailed. Thank you so much Rocky.

I had new tires installed on my truck. As always, Rich and the crew took very good care of me. I was also made aware of a potential alignment issue during that process. Rich provided me with photos of where the problem lies along with the cost of repair. It was decided to check for any abnormal tire wear at the 5000 mile service. It's service like this that is why I remain a customer of American Tire and Service.

160 fee. Just for looking at it. Plus 3% any debit/credit card fee. Also disposal part fee. Very expensive labor and parts IMO

we are sorry you feel that way. prices are high everywhere. we do not charge "just to look at the vehicle". we had to have an experienced ase certified technician spend time to figure out why your car would take too long to get warm. we also do not charge to dispose any parts. we do our best to give you the best price possible. credit card companies are raising fees for a lot of small business. you can avoid the card convince fee by paying with a cashier's check or cash. I do see you got the AAA discount. thank you for the feed back.

I took my car in cause I wasn’t starting up so I had it towed to American tires and service. I’ve taken my vehicle there before my car is a little older and has a lot of miles. My contact was with Rich and he was very helpful. He kept in contact with me and explained everything that was going on. I thought that I was gonna have to junk my car, but it came out that it did need a lot of parts and it was pretty much expensive for as old as my car is, but I really love my car so they did a very good job. The only thing that I really didn’t like was that they charge you a credit card fee and then amount that they charge me was $75 and that’s why I only gave it a four star

Worst place you can take a vehicle to be repaired. All I received was the runaround every day I called about my daughter's car. They sent me pictures of things that I didn't take the car in for. Told me on the phone I needed an oil change that was just done last month. I took the car in on Monday I called on Tuesday they said it needed a high pressure power steering line and they had to order it from Denver and was told it should be ready Thursday I said ok. I called Friday and was given a big runaround how the part was lost in the mail and they were trying to find it. On Saturday called and now it's not the high pressure line it's the rack and pinion and did not know when they could get one. I told them Im coming to get the car. I could go on and on but just thinking about what they kept trying to pull. One good one was they told me the check engine light was on. The picture showed that the ignition switch was on but the motor wasn't running no RPM on the tack and it wasn't on when I took it in. I told them from the start it had a power steering fluid leak and that is what I wanted looked at not 186 dollars worth of diagnostic bull crap that had nothing to do with anything. I am 73 yrs old been a mechanic most of my life, from cars, motorcycles, and jet aircraft. I didn't sign any paperwork to authorize anything. So I am out money for a con Job. I think someone thought I was a old guy who didn't have a clue.

This vehicle had multiple problems with it, the radiator leaks, had power steering leaks from multiple locations, engine oil leaks and the bolts for the motor mount was completely broken off, we just wanted to let you know everything about your car especially since your daughter is going to be driving it, originally, we had to special order the hose and our parts supplier said it never showed up in town even though it was sent from Denver. We apologize for that inconvenience, unfortunately in this instance we are at the mercy of the shipper and the part supplier we did end up finding one from another supplier and wanted to move forward on your repair and get your car back to you asap. the fluid leaks were really bad and made a huge mess all under the vehicle, before we replaced the line we cleaned everything off and then saw that the rack was leaking the majority of the power steering fluid. we called to inform you of the situation before replacing the hose. we asked you to come in and look at the car with us for full transparency, and you did, the mechanic showed you the broken motor mount and the radiator that was leaking and explained the oil leaks from multiple locations. we understand car problems are frustrating, our policy is to inform you of any problems with your vehicle and advise you of the best repair with full transparency.

My ex-wife was having problems with her truck so after American tire told her it was going to be 6,000 plus dollars plus they're going to tell her more things that were wrong with it, I stepped in. They charged thousands of dollars and the truck was still broken. We took it to another mechanic and then found that the four-wheel drive was engaged even though they never said anything about that. This was a result of it doing what it was doing. fixing that and repairing a wheel bearing. Solved the problem and prevented us from spending $6,000 plus dollars on something that they didn't even know that was wrong with it. Be careful using these guys.

I called American Tire and Service this past Monday (8/4/25) to schedule service for new tires, alignment, oil change and check the noise coming from the engine and/or battery of our Ford Fusion. Mike took the time to listen to my needs and requests, and assured me they would look at all this by repeating my requests (of course with much better and professional terminology than me!). It was music to my ears when Mike said I could bring in the vehicle the next day (8/5)! Excellent customer service! Mike kept me apprised throughout the day of the specific work that needed to be done, gave me options specifically on tire brands, provided costs before doing each task and made sure I approved the work. I even received pictures, and Mike and the team/mechanics went through a series of tests and provided me with the results. At no time did I feel like they were giving me a run for my money. They were honest, professional, kind and true genuine people who know what they are doing! And the pricing is great. The work was done on the vehicle and was ready for pick up the same day. To make all even better, our vehicle is running wonderfully and is ready for our son to take to college next week. Thank you Mike, Rocky and ‘Team Mechanics’ for everything! BTW… my family and I have been customers of American Tire and Service for at least 15 years and have always been satisfied with their service and work. As a matter of fact, our Ford Focus is being dropped off for mechanical work tomorrow (8/7/25).

This place is amazing! They diagnosed our car right away even though it was almost closing time and we didn’t have an appointment. They were thorough and friendly. Rich gave us an estimate of time and cost. We also asked them to give the car a once over for any other problems. There were a couple, brakes and front end work in addition to the ac compressor which took out the serpentine belt. When it rains it pours! Thought it would take 3 days but it was ready the next day! The great part was, the alternator plug was loose so it acted up before we got home. Took it back and they immediately addressed and fixed the problem with a smile and kindness. Maybe you’ll say they should, but that’s not always the experience. Great shout out to our technician whose name I can’t remember but I’ll find out and add it in. Can’t recommend enough!!! Love them

Getting into the mix of all your business made me feel fortunate. The tires you put on for me were a bit of a surprise, but it seems likely they will last longer than most of those I've had in the past. Everyone I dealt with was pleasant. We were traveling when we had car issues. Contacted Rocky at American Tire and Service to have our car towed to this business. Rocky was amazing. He assured us that they would do their best to get us back on the road within a couple of days. The shop was full, but Rocky made sure we got our car back within two days. I had an oil leak due to an issue with the big franchise who changed my oil. Rocky and his team were able to figure out what happened. Get me in and out take care of me with the most professional and kind attitude. and no extra cost they ran other diagnostics on my car so then I know the condition of my brakes and tires so I was very impressed and very pleased with my service and certainly will go back and recommend them to others. It’s nice to have some one that is fair, honest and professional.

Rocky and his team got my business several years ago when another shop started yanking me around; and they've kept it ever since. Great customer service is just the start. Everyone I've talked with has been knowledgeable and professional, never talking down to me or trying to upsell me. After an inspection (part of the oil change service), they let me know if it looks like some other service or repair might be needed soon. And best of all, they do great work at a fair price. The waiting area is clean and quiet (no TV or radio blaring), with a water fountain and restroom close by. I actually don't mind waiting during an oil change; it's a nice place to sit and read or think. I highly recommend this shop.

I woke up early this morning to a tire pressure light. I decided to run to the high school and then to the nearest gas station to check the tire pressure and the reason for the low pressure. At the gas station, I found a screw had punctured the rear driver side tire. American Tire and Service was the closest and earliest open shop. I stopped by to see if they could fit me in and I am glad I did. Even though they were busy, they immediately got me in and got me back on the road in less than an hour. The staff are very friendly and professional. If you need auto repair or tires, go check them out.

I had been to American Tire in Rio Rancho a couple of times in the past. Each of those times, they had taken pretty good care of me. However, this last time I brought in my vehicle due to a rattle noise / something loose under the vehicle; not knowing what it might be. A day & a half and $1000 later, the noise of something loose under the vehicle remains. I'm sorry to say, but what a waste of time & money. Very frustrating!

Was near American Tire when tire pressure warning went off just a week after topping air. Stopped in knowing they would be busy but they fit me in for a check and found and repaired a nail. No charge since I had bought the tires there and in and out within an hour. Friendly and great service.

Brought my 2005 Ford Expedition to Rocky and the guys. I've put so much time and money into this vehicle and still could not figure out why it was running so lean. It would lose power after going 70mph. I changed all parts related to these issues. I was referred by a friend/mechanic that American Tire and Service was hands down the best in NM. And he was right. After dropping off the vehicle to them. They updated me and stayed in contact and assured me that they would figure this out. After a week and a couple days they got to the issue. I was expecting a pricey bill. And to my surprise it was reasonable considering how much time they spent on fixing my car. I'll recommend Rocky and Alex and the rest of the guys to take care of you and your vehicle.They are honest and you can trust this business. I'm thankful for all the work they did to get my vehicle running.

Called American Tire and Auto because our car wouldn't start. We are seniors and we only have one car and nobody around to help us get it there. American tire told us about a tow truck that could come get the car and they were here within half an hour. We found out that our alternator went out and our battery was dead. The next day around 12:00 American tire and Auto call and said our car was ready it was our alternator and battery. We will never use any other auto shop this place is fabulous and they helped us so much being seniors alone in our house. God bless them!✝️

These have been my guys for many years. When I brought my car in recently with a noise in my brakes, I was delighted when they couldn’t find anything particularly wrong, but since I brought it in, I’ve had no noise in my brakes and I’ve driven quite a ways across New Mexico since then since then. Woke up one morning to a complete flat tire. Didn't know what to do so I live across american tire and called them. They sent someone over right away to put air in my tire. I took it to them and they fixed it quickly. Started taking all my cars and parents cars there. They explained and showed me what was wrong, told me if I did or didn't fix it what could happen, if I replaced or bought the parts myself what they will warranty out if something was to happen. I appreciated this. They didn't haggle me. They did great work! If I had an issue they fixed it. It's hard to find a great honest mechanical places and they are amazing. I recommend them to anyone who ask or needs car work done. They sold me the day they sent there mechanic to help me with my flat tire. I will say that the only con is they are always really busy. Be patient and understanding and they will take care of you.

I never have a bad experience here, everyone is great to work with and very helpful. Never pushy about charging you for more stuff and don't charge a ridiculous amount like other places. Seem mostly honest as well, they don't try and confuse misdirect you to get more money out of you. In recent years the quality and cost have been somewhat negatively affected, but it seems they are still one of the best to use

I went to American Tire and Service after hitting a curb and ruining my right front tire as well as damaging the rim beyond repair. I went to American Tire after being urged to do so by my son. I also went there in a bad mood because I had just left H&R Block knowing I had over 2 thousand bucks coming to me and now a good portion of it would be siphoned off to pay for a rim and two new front tires. I had planned to have this work done at the automotive department of a big box store, but I was told I would have to order the rim myself online. Dang. Why would it be that difficult for them to do it? But the final straw was when they failed to give me back my keys after I ordered a tire (free because of a warrantee) and had an oil change. One of the employees said he would get them. Twenty minutes later I went inside and got them myself. At American Tire I dealt with a gentleman named Rich who was efficient, answered all my questions clearly, and appeared extremely knowledgeable about my situation. He explained why it is suggested to get two new tires for a front wheel flat tire, but he put no pressure on me to do so. Rich wasn't an employee going through the motions. His behavior was more like that of an old friend dealing with a buddy who knew next to nothing about tires and rims. The price for all the needed items was less than what I had calculated in my head. Rich made sure my spare was properly inflated and that the lug nuts were tight. I was quite impressed with how I was treated. Based on my experience and those of my son with AT&S, I wholeheartedly recommend them for your auto needs,

I do not recommend anyone going to American Tire.They do not stand behind their work.My boyfriend took his truck there for an alignment and because of their lack of experience and knowledge it nearly caused him to get into an accident.I followed him home after the alignment and as we were heading home his truck pulled to the left and nearly collided into a 18 wheeler.After this incident he has took his truck back twice and each time they basically stated he was at fault.This time they told him that additional work was needed at the time of the alignment but only spoke of it today because he insisted they repair what they were supposed to fix.The employee was very confrontational and unprofessional and still refusing to fix their wrong doings.So now he has to pay someone else to fix what they did wrong at his cost.Their negligence nearly caused a major accident but they don't care about fixing the problem.I will never recommend anyone to take their vehicles here.They do not fix the initial problem infact they cause more damage and refuse to fix it afterwards.They are very unprofessional and could of cost my boyfriend his life and possibly others.

We absolutely stand by our work. On at least 2 occasions, we warned the driver that parts needed to be replaced and he said he would take care of that. Our records show the owner put the front suspension parts on himself, then brought it to us for alignment. We warned that the sleeve that holds the tie rod was worn and needed to be replaced. Several months later, he brought it back and we again warned that it needed a replacement and he again said he'd take care of that. When it came loose on Feb 7, he wanted us to repair the sleeve and replace the damaged wheel, yet we'd cautioned on several visits that the parts needed to be replaced. Replacing worn automotive parts is vital for the safety of the driver and everyone on the road.

Terrible place. They left my steering loose, twice, once I caught it before something happened the second time after the tire rod end completely fell off. Almost killed my friend and I. The tire rod fell off and destroyed the tire and wheel. The guy that did it when I can back reaked of alcohol and pot….management then tired to get 4 fat, pimples faced dough boys to try to intimidate me. Stay away. These are just simple thieves and drunks working here.

I needed to get a spare tire checked and these guys were super busy because they are short staffed. With all of the cars and people waiting for service, business should be booming. They told me that they keep losing staff and found out why when I asked how much they pay. (They told me because I asked if they were hiring.) The guy almost used the cheap boss catch phrase of "nobody wants to work anymore." Anyway, they were going to charge me $20 to deal with the leaky bead on my flat tire - that's fair, but I needed it today. So, I took the tire to Big O down the street and the place was clean, they had a normal looking amount of business and they fixed the leaky rim for free! That's how you gain customers.

I had just been released after spending a week in the hospital. Just before driving into my garage a loud noise came from my engine. Immediately after entering the condo I called American Tire and Service and spoke to Joey Plese to schedule a tow truck to pick up my vehicle. During several conversations with Joey it was determined my vehicle wouldn’t be repaired by the time I was scheduled to go to my Primary provider for an after hospital check-up. I was an emotional wreck, if the truck wasn’t repaired I would have to find other means to get there. I am an introvert and have only myself to depend on so I became anxious about getting a ride. Joey said he would talk with the tech to see if the truck would be ready. During a subsequent call Joey told me if the parts arrived in time the tech would do all he could to have the truck repaired. Joey would get back to me before the close of business with more information. Joey also offered his assistance to drive me to my appointment if truck still wasn’t ready. I was so relieved and grateful for his kindness and thoughtfulness. I am so grateful to Joey and the tech for their efforts to resolve these issues that weigh so heavily on me. I’ve been a customer of American Tire and Service since 2007 and have found the staff friendly and professional, and very customer oriented. Although in hind sight the care displayed by Joey and the tech wasn’t surprising, the degree they went to was. I apologize for not thinking to get his name as I was so caught up in my own thoughts. Thank you both.

The place to go for great prices on tires and repair. I found these folks about a decade or so ago and go there for all my mechanical work and for tires. They beat the price of all the tire places. I purchased a set of Cooper 75,000 mile radial tires for my Accord. Great price and I really like the look and performance of the tires. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. I can rest assured that the folks at American Tire will do a great job and will not do something that's unnecessary just to make a buck. Everyone I've ever dealt with from front desk to the mechanics couldn't be nicer and more helpful. Highly recommended!!!

Brought my truck in to get the tires rotated and balanced. About a month later and less than 500 miles, one of the lug nuts came off on my way to work. I called to get them to cover the cost of the lug nut. They said they couldn't take responsibility for it and blamed it on possible theft. What happened to customer service? There are much better places to get you vehicle worked on.

Took in our Chevy Captiva because it was leaking a lot of oil. It was the timing chain cover gasket and another gasket. They asked if I wanted my timing chain replaced while they were in there. I said yes, only if it needs it. Well, it didn't need to be changed and put that on their notes. Honestly will make customers come back to your business. And I will be taking all my vehicles to them from now on.

I feel so lucky to have found American Tire and Service! These are GREAT people. They treated me right and I am hooked after my first visit! They did a fabulous job on my car. I watched them hug their repeat customers and treat them like family. The owner Roger gave me a ride home so I didn't have to wait there. I have never been at a vehicle service center with a positive, upbeat attitude. And EVERY employee had this attitude. So refreshing!

Horrible place to get your car worked on rude, inexperienced, unprofessional, they claim to be a tire shop but will scratch your rims and then tell you you should be grateful that they were honest about scratching it. I do not trust these people with any of my vehicles and will never take another car there. Roger the owner is the rudest person I have ever met at an automotive shop he will overcharge you and not fix your car right he is just all about money I have never met a small business owner that cared so little about his own business.

American Tire and Service, is no longer trustworthy. I've used American several times before. They are expensive, but previously reliable and a decent shop. Things have changed for the worse. My most recent visit to American for a simple repair resulted in my car being broken while they had it for a far more expensive repair. More importantly, to me, when asked to have one of their managers call they did.......nothing. I strongly recommend you avoid American until they get new leadership.

Very disappointed! Use to come here and trust that they would give you honest service but times has changed them. I took my car last month in for a engine light they told me my battery was bad and the recommended that I change it ASAP. They offered to change it for $220. I told them I had a warranty with auto zone and would just change it my self. Well today I took it to auto zone and they told me nothing was wrong the battery. So I took the battery put of my car for no reason. Very disappointed that they would lie to me. Use caution with them!

My tire light came on during my drive to work. I stopped in to see if they could get me in and out relatively quickly. They were super nice and got me in as soon as they could. It took a little longer than they thought it would, but without an appointment or anything, I thought they took care of my SUV just fine. I left with a fixed tire and it hasn't leaked since. Will definately go back!

Thanks to American tire and auto they saved me about 2k in repairs at subaru by finding out about an extended warranty that subaru was reluctant to bring up. They fixed one of my problems in a quick and timely manner for a good price and then suggested my car get towed to subaru to be fixed under the warranty. I stopped here just after 0800 and they got me in pretty quickly. All the employees were super helpful. Their service was awesome! I now have 4 tires holding air like they should!

We were out of town and broke down. The got us in and out within 24 hours. They were very friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Everyone there was like that but I had the pleasure of working with David Duchaussee and he made sure what the problem was and he also worked with the technician to make sure he got us back on the road. Not only were they professional but very fair on the price. I would totally recommend them to anyone who want to have their vehicle taken care of and treated well in the process.

The general manager at this location is horrible. I ordered tires for my boat trailer at 8am and was told they would call me when the tires arrived at noon and get them install them that afternoon. No one called so I called them and was told they couldn’t put the tires on after all because the general manager didn’t feel ok about it. I explained to the GM that the boat trailer came from the Malibu boat factory with the same tires so it was obviously safe. I also explained that I should have been told right away and it was now too late for me to get tires anywhere else for the rest of the weekend being Saturday afternoon. He still refused and ruined everyone’s weekend at the lake.

We're sorry that your weekend at the lake didn't go as planned. We had called before your arrival to let you know that the tires you wanted to add to your trailer would not be safe. Those specific tires were rated for speed and not for weight, so they're better for a sports car and not for hauling a trailer with a boat on it. Trailer tires are made different so they can be able to hold the weight of the trailer and load. The sports tires would not be able to with stand weight, swaying, turning or hopping that may happen when pulling a trailer. It's extremely unsafe to add a truck or car tire to a trailer regardless of load rating. As a business, we have to follow NMDOT regulations for any tire we put on a vehicle or trailer. Again, we're sorry about the weekend at the lake but we are bound to put safety first.

Tom and his team did an amazing job!!! Called them at 730am...dropped my car off at 8am and had my clutch done by noon everyone else was a week or two out before seeing my car and would have it for 2 or more days ...I couldn't be happier!! Great work!!!! Highly recommend!!!! Thank you very much!!!

I went into this store early this morning. With urgent request they assessed my truck and provided me with what repairs are needed. I approved to proceed. They offered myself and my nephew a ride back home. A few hours later David, manager called me back told me my truck repair was completed. I am satisfied with their friendly service, their professionalism and fast service. I appreciate the staff and manager for taking care of my vehicle. I would recommend their service. Thank you again. So in continuation to my previous review, it turns out the reason they couldn't put my tire on the rim was that they were trying to put a 16" stock tire onto an 18" aftermarket wheel. When I went to pick the car up after calling the tire place I ordered the tires from online because I misunderstood them and thought that the tire place at sent me a 16" tire, I got into move my car and the 18" tire in the back seat was still there. I don't know how they didn't know was there, they had to move the car twice and it was plainly visible. To top it all off when I went to pick the car up because I thought they had the wrong tire for the rim they hadn't even ordered the tire pressure sensor that I had told them to order. Awesome service if I could have left 0 stars I would have. In conclusion if you do decide to have repairs done here, don't plan on getting them done in a timely manner or in a manner that was done well. Expect return service, maybe that's how they make their money.
